Local SEO lead generation for agencies

How to find local SEO clients on Google Maps.

Find businesses that fit your service, then understand their current online presence. LeadMapper brings discovery, listing filters and prospect records into one workflow; your research establishes each business’s needs.

  1. 01

    Choose a niche and market.

Start with business types you understand and the towns or cities you serve. Keep the search relevant to your portfolio and local SEO offer.

  2. 02

    Search the area.

Review the estimate in the app, then run a focused search or use a grid of search points for a wider area. Results are combined into one business list.

  3. 03

    Organise the candidates.

Sort the Reviews column from fewest to most. Add category, minimum-rating, website or phone filters when they help with your research brief.

  4. 04

    Research the current business.

Check the live Business Profile, website and customer enquiry route. Record the source, date and specific observation behind each question.

  5. 05

Keep the next step with the lead.

Export a working shortlist or save chosen prospects to the CRM. Add the known contact, research notes and a dated task before following up.

Try the agency prospect workflow

Build a local SEO prospect shortlist.

This is the results screen after three area searches, sorted by review count with the thinnest listings first. Narrow it by category, rating, website or phone, then save the practices worth researching or export the view as CSV.

Make the listing details useful

Ratings, reviews, categories and contact details help you organise a local SEO lead list. Each signal gives you a practical next check before you approach a business.

Google Business Profile prospecting

Research the current profile before your pitch.

Open the live profile and website to see what customers see. Treat the returned listing as a starting point and confirm what you would discuss.

  1. 1

    Check identity and category.

Match the name, location and services to the business you mean to research. Review its category in context and note any question about how it describes the work it does.

  2. 2

    Understand hours and appointments.

If hours were not returned, check the current profile and website. Understand whether customers visit, book appointments or receive a service at their own location before recording an issue.

  3. 3

    Read the review context.

Look at recent feedback, dates and business replies on the current profile. Record a specific observation and ask how the business currently handles customer feedback and review requests.

  4. 4

    Follow the customer’s next step.

Check the website, service information and the available call, enquiry or booking route. Confirm the links you want to discuss, and keep the source with your research note.

Appointment-based and service-area businesses can legitimately omit hours or an address, so a missing field is not a confirmed problem. Review totals help organise the list; check review text and replies separately.

From listing to useful conversation

Keep the evidence behind your next question.

Record what you observed, where you checked it and what you still need to understand. A clear note makes the first conversation more specific.

Check the current profile, appointment arrangements and website before recording a finding.

  1. 1

    Confirm the finding.

Revisit the current profile and website. Capture the source and date, distinguish returned fields from confirmed observations, and check whether an apparent gap is relevant to this business.

  2. 2

    Ask about the business goal.

Ask how customers currently find and contact the business, which services matter most and what it wants to improve. Record the answer so you can assess service fit and priorities.

  3. 3

    Agree on the next action.

Confirm the person responsible for marketing and agree on a relevant next step. Add the contact details you obtain, then schedule research or a follow-up in the CRM.

Build the offer from the findings you confirm and the business’s goals. Your research can lead to a profile review, local service-page discussion or a review-process conversation, depending on what is relevant to the client and within your service.

Know what each tool contributes

Keep prospect discovery and visibility research clear.

LeadMapper helps you find businesses and organise the work around each prospect. Add ranking, website and citation evidence when your service assessment needs it, keeping the findings with the lead.

Google describes local ranking as depending on relevance, distance and prominence. Ratings and review counts provide part of the listing context; they cannot establish a business’s ranking position.

The Google Maps grid in LeadMapper uses several search points for business discovery. For a ranking assessment, use a separate tool that measures the chosen business against specified keywords and locations over time.

Take the shortlist into a spreadsheet

Export local SEO prospects to CSV.

Review the business list in Excel or Google Sheets. Match the file scope to the task, from a research shortlist to the complete saved search.

Compare CSV columns and scopes →
  • Current view.

Export the loaded, filterable result view in the order you are using. The 16-column format includes business name, address, phone, website, rating, reviews, categories and available result metadata.

  • Selected rows.

Choose the specific businesses you want to work on using the app’s supported row-selection export. Keep your research findings alongside the business identity so the list stays useful.

  • Complete search.

Use the separate 14-column complete-search export for the saved search’s fuller listing data. Opening hours appear here when returned. The file can include rows excluded from your filtered view.

Built-in CRM for local SEO prospects

Keep research and follow-ups with every prospect.

Save chosen businesses as leads with the contacts you know and your research in the same record. Tasks, notes and call logs give each conversation context.

    Save the finding and source.

Record the profile or website checks, when you made them and the question to resolve. Add the known business contact as you establish who handles marketing.

  2. 2

    Set the next action.

Create a dated research or follow-up task and record the call or conversation. Check previous notes and lead status before preparing another approach.

  3. 3

    Track the sales conversation.

Use New, Contacted, Qualified and Proposal as the work progresses. Update Won or Lost when you know the outcome, keeping your notes and activity with the prospect.

The listing workflow does not identify a business owner or enrich email addresses. A returned phone number is a possible business contact route. Confirm the relevant person and add the information you obtain to the CRM.

FAQ

Questions about finding local SEO clients.

How do I find local SEO clients with LeadMapper?

Choose a business type and location you serve, run the search and review the returned listings. Sort by reviews and use category, rating, website or phone filters where useful. Research the current profile and website, then save suitable prospects with a note and next action in the CRM.

Who is this local SEO prospecting workflow for?

Local SEO agencies, consultants and freelancers who want to find businesses to research as potential clients. It helps organise agency prospecting. It does not deliver inbound customer enquiries for the businesses on the list.

Can I find businesses with fewer Google reviews?

Yes. Sort the Reviews column from fewest to most to work through the returned counts in order. Review count is a sort, not a minimum-review-count filter. The count does not show review recency, replies or the business’s age.

Do low review counts mean a business needs SEO?

A count is a starting point for research. Read the current reviews, understand the business and assess its local market before drawing a conclusion. The listing alone does not establish its rankings, budget, goals or interest in hiring an agency.

Can I check Google Business Profile opening hours?

Hours can appear on the business record when returned. If they are absent, check the current profile and business arrangements manually. Some appointment-based businesses should not publish regular hours. Hours are included in the 14-column complete-search CSV when returned, but not the 16-column current-view CSV.

Can I include businesses that already have websites?

Yes. Keep Website set to Any, or filter to Website listed. A populated URL shows website availability in the result; it does not assess local content, speed or quality. If no website is returned, check for a site elsewhere before treating that as a finding.

Does LeadMapper track local rankings or run SEO audits?

This workflow discovers business listings and helps you filter, research and manage prospects. Its search grid covers multiple discovery points. Local ranking measurements, website audits, citation checks and Business Profile edits need your own research or separate tools.

Does LeadMapper find business-owner emails?

The listing workflow returns available business contact details such as a phone number. It does not identify the owner or enrich email addresses. Confirm who handles marketing and add the contact details you obtain to the CRM yourself.

Can I export local SEO prospects to CSV?

Yes. Export the current result view or selected rows with the app’s supported actions. A current view covers its loaded, filterable data in the chosen order; complete-search export is a separate scope. The demo download follows the matching fictional rows and sort order.

Can I manage local SEO leads in a CRM?

Yes. Save chosen businesses as leads in LeadMapper’s built-in CRM. Add research notes, known contacts, dated tasks and call logs. Update the prospect’s status as conversations progress, and review the record before planning another follow-up.

Build your next local SEO prospect list.

Find businesses in the markets you serve, research the candidates and keep the next step organised. Export your local SEO shortlist or save prospects with notes and follow-up tasks in LeadMapper’s CRM. We’ll email your invite link, straight away or after a short review.
