A long list of businesses isn’t a pipeline. Qualifying is deciding who’s worth your time before you pick up the phone, and most of what you need is already on each business’s Google Maps listing.
Start with what you sell
The best signal depends on your offer. The same list can be qualified three different ways:
- Web design: well-reviewed businesses with no website listed. Use the web design leads workflow to check the website need and qualify the project before proposing a build.
- Local SEO: listings with few reviews or missing details, such as opening hours.
- B2B sales: the right category in the right territory, with a phone number listed.
The five signals on every listing
- Rating: how happy their customers are. A strong rating usually means an established business that cares about its reputation.
- Review count: whether the business is established or just starting out. Sort by it to find busy, well-known businesses.
- Phone: whether you can call them today. Filter to phone listed and every row has a number to ring.
- Website: your pitch angle if you sell websites or marketing.
- Category: whether they really do what you’re selling into.
Read “No website listed” carefully
“No website listed” means the website field on the listing is empty. Plenty of these businesses really have no site, but some have one that just isn’t linked, or only a social page. Treat it as a reason to look closer, not a verdict.
- 1Search the business name and town.
- 2Look for a social or directory page.
- 3Check the live Google profile for other links, such as booking or menu links.
- 4Call the listed number and ask.
Build a shortlist
Filter the list by the signal that matters for your offer, then sort by reviews so the busiest businesses rise to the top. Save the best as leads and give each one a priority, so you know who to call first. In LeadMapper you can qualify a list with filters and export just the rows you keep.
Follow up until it’s won
Qualifying doesn’t stop at the first call. Keep notes with each lead, set a task with a due date for the next step, and move the lead through your stages from New to Won, so nothing gets pitched twice or forgotten.
